Brexit ‘reset’ could constrain UK’s freedom of movement on trade

As Anton Spisak, a former UK government official now at the Centre for European Reform, observes, the tension is that despite the warm rhetoric around a “reset”, Whitehall sees itself as having a different set of policy interests than other European capitals.  “While some of that divergence is understandable, it will increasingly ring alarm bells in Brussels and other European capitals (especially in Paris) that the UK could become a back door to the EU single market for cheap Chinese industrial goods,” he said.
