Hybrid launch of 'The Routledge Guide to the European Union (2nd edition)' with Ian Bond, Mark Leonard and Armida van Rij

To launch the second edition of 'The Routledge Guide to the European Union', extensively revised and updated by Ian Bond.

The Routledge Guide to the European Union began life as 'The Economist Guide to the European Union'. Its original author, the late Dick Leonard, took it through many editions and its transformation into the Routledge Guide. The new edition covers the history of the EU, describes the institutions and how they function, sets out the EU's competences and how they have evolved, and finally discusses some of the key challenges that lie ahead of the EU. These include the possibility of further enlargement and closer political integration; threats to the rule of law; managing migration and social change; and ensuring that the EU can be secure and prosperous in a world of great power competition.

After Charles Grant has made some introductory remarks, Dick Leonard's son, Mark Leonard, will reflect on his father's work on the earlier editions of the book. Armida van Rij will then discuss with Ian some of the challenges facing the EU in 2025, and how it might tackle them. The discussion will on-the-record and recorded.
