London
20 July 2026

Pedro Serrano, Ambassador of the European Union to the United Kingdom in conversation with Ian Bond, Deputy Director of the Centre for European Reform

Pedro Serrano has served as EU Ambassador to the UK since 2022. Prior to this, he was Chief of Staff to the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell Fontelles. His previous roles included Deputy Secretary General for Common Security and Defence Policy and Crisis Response at the European External Action Service, and Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy. Ambassador Serrano was also the first EU Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.

As he prepares to retire in the autumn of this year, this discussion looked back on his career, how the EEAS has evolved since its formation in 2010, and how the EU-UK relationship has changed and continues to develop.
