"The Hungarian economy has fallen into rather poor shape during Victor Orban's years in power. Hungary has a large budget deficit, the country will have to initiate a budget deficit procedure within the EU, the EU will push Hungary to cut budget expenditures and if Hungary fails to do so it could be subject to additional fines which willworsen its economic situation. Therefore Magyar really does need this money from European funds to improve the country's economic situation," said Ian Bond, deputy director of the CER.
